So, whatís with the marbles? Dad has followed his favorite rock band Marillion (note the T-shirt Iím wearing at left) nearly 20 years and they finally toured the U.S. in support of their latest album called Ė you guessed it - Marbles (album cover below right). Knowing how important this was to Dad, Mom (who isnít a Marillion fan at all) took off on a plane with Dad to go to Chicago for a weekend to see Marillion live.
While Dad will certainly works to expose me to rock music, even he was smart enough to know that I shouldnít really go to my first rock concert at the age of 2. Instead, I stayed with Uncle Mark and Aunt Liz for the weekend. This was my first overnight away from Mom and Dad. Cousin Chris played his cello for me, we went to the park, Aunt Liz made me cookies, and Uncle Mark even took me back to my house to sleep in my own bed. I had a great weekend Ė almost as much fun as Dad!
With summer officially over, the community center near us started up their very popular indoor playground that they did last year through the winter and spring. They have bikes (my favorite), a moonwalk, balls, and plenty of other activities in a gym full of kids and parents. Dad takes me every week.
|As a family, we hit a couple of fall-themed events. First, we went to the Overland Park Arboretum. We went on a hayride, did arts and crafts, played games, and, my favorite, played a dulcimer.
We also went to Deanna Rose farmís annual pumpkin festival. We picked out a pumpkin to take home, went on another hayride, did some pretend fishing, and, as pictured at right, played in a big tub of corn.
Just like last year, when we got our pumpkin home from Deanna Rose farm, I helped Dad carve it. Iím definitely not sure about this business of handling the goopy stuff inside the pumpkin, though. I opted for tongs instead of my hands.
Of course, we wrapped up the month with Halloween. I went as my favorite character, Winnie the Pooh. I dressed up in my costume FOUR times Ė to go to a party at Momís work, to visit Grandma and Grandpa when they babysat for Mom and Dad to go out and celebrate their 5th anniversary (yea for them!), on Halloween itself, and then a couple days later to put on a Pooh play for Uncle Markís birthday.
Whatís this about a play, you say? Well, while Dad narrated and Mom managed props, I acted out a Winnie the Pooh birthday story for Uncle Mark. This wasnít my first play, though Ė I had also done a Curious George play for Mom. Looks like Iím taking on Momís theater bug already...
Well, see ya next month!
