Beach Vacation, May 2004
May 17, 2004 May 14 – 22, 2004: My first trip to the beach! Mom and Dad and I went to Topsail, North Carolina for a family vacation. Mom’s family used to come here when she was growing up. The last time she’d been here was 11 years ago.

Her whole family was here (Grandma Shirley, Aunt Jennifer, Uncle Chris, and my cousins Nate, Liz, and Mike). They haven’t all been together since before I was born

I loved the ocean. My swim classes paid off! I wasn’t afraid of the water at all. Mom helped me blow bubbles.

Dad helped me dip my toes in. I also loved ‘jumping the waves.’ May 15, 2004
May 17, 2004 The sand was a lot of fun, too. It was nothing like my sandbox at home. I especially liked knocking down sand castles that other people built. It was also fun when the waves came up and surrounded me while I was playing in the sand.
Grandma Shirley played with me a lot on the beach. Here we are playing with shells we collected. I liked listening to the ocean with the big shells. May 20, 2004
May 19, 2004 It was lots of fun to spend time with family. Uncle Chris read me stories…and I read a few to him.
I played Peek-a-Boo with Aunt Jennifer. May 19, 2004
May 20, 2004 Mom’s best friend Jodie was there, too. She played the game with me that she helped me make up where we pretend we’re asleep, then suddenly pretend we’re awake.
My cousin Nate and his girlfriend Jackie played ball with me; Mom even got me a basketball hoop, which you can see lying on the floor. I had lots of fun with it, too. May 20, 2004
May 17, 2004 Of course, I also did my best to entertain everyone. I broke out the guitar for some sing-a-longs – you know, the classics like ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ and ‘The ABCs’.

Actually, I got to strum a real guitar during the beach vacation when we went to visit Dad’s cousin Carolyn. Click on the button below to see pictures from that visit.
