2004

As a last hurrah to summer, Mom decided we should get out for a spontaneous road trip to celebrate Labor Day. We ended up going to Topeka, less than an hour away, and spending time at a great lake and zoo, both of which we’ll come back to next summer. The highlight of the trip for me, though, was the night we got there and it was raining. When we pulled into our motel after dinner, there was a rainbow clear across the sky – the first I’ve ever seen. I thought it was amazing and now whenever it rains, I say “rainbow” in hopes that there will be another one.

October 5, 2004 We hit the parks a lot this month as well. We found a new park with a roundabout, which you don’t see very often anymore. I also liked swinging on the bar over the slide, riding on the swings, and climbing on the horsey. October 5, 2004

And, in my final tribute to summer, I played in the sprinkler in the front yard. I went swimming a lot over the summer, but this was only the second time, I think, that I played in the sprinkler. September 15, 2004

September 15, 2004 – with friends at lunch Other big news concerns my first real time striking out on my own. Mom and Dad enrolled me in a Parents Day Out program two days a week. It took a couple weeks to adjust, but I’ve made some new friends and like my teachers. September 15, 2004 – left to right: Karen, Evan, Vanessa

September 17, 2004 I’m also working to create balance in my life – the right amount of household chores mixed with the right amount of play. At left, I’m scrubbing up the sharp butcher knives for Mom and Dad (not!). Actually, I’m just playing with toys in the sink.

At the right, I’m playing with Fisher Price people that Dad used to play with when he was a kid. Grandma and Grandpa stored them in their garage for over 25 years!
