2003

September 2003: The big news for the month is regarding the walking front. At the beginning of the month, I was still pretty unsure of this walking thing. I would take some steps on my own, but mostly want someone's hand to hold. As far as crawling goes, the only purpose I can tell that it serves is to get somewhere to be able to pull up and then walk.

By the end of the month, I could take off from tables and walk across rooms and even down the hall. Now I just have to get this standing-up-from-a-sitting-position thing down.

Evan Land: After I got this great shelf from my grandparents, Dad finally finished 'Evan Land' during the month of August and it was up and running full steam in September. Dad joked with Mom before I was even born that he was going to turn the entire downstairs into a child-care-for-one. This is his first step.

I'm also getting very curious and want to check everything out. I made up my own sign for 'phone' (I touch my hand to my ear) and am pretty baffled when Mom and Dad put the real thing up to my ear. Apparently there is a very tiny person hiding inside it because I hear voices coming out of it!

I discovered a flashlight for the first time and thought that was pretty incredible. Here I'm staring at the beam from the flashlight in complete awe.

September 13, 2003: If my granddaddy Jim were still alive, he would be 75 today. In an homage to him, I saw my first train this week! Dad and I went to Parkville, MO where I played in the park by the Missouri River. When we heard the train coming, he quickly put me in my stroller and we wheeled over to see the entire train go by. At the end, I clapped.

September 23, 2003. September 23, 2003: I went to the zoo for the first time. I loved all the animals - especially the giraffes and elephants. I got to watch one of the zooworkers feed the giraffes and so got to see one close up. I also formed a special bond with one elephant when I 'spoke' to him and he seemed to be paying attention. September 27, 2003. September 27, 2003: Mom took me to the Deanna Rose Farm today. I got to see sheep for the first time! (In case you didn't know, one of my favorite words is 'baaa!'). I also got to feed the goats, honk at the geese, go on a hayride, and watch my friend Alexander fish in the pond. September 27, 2003.
