2005

Open House, October 2005 My biggest news of the month is that I’ve started preschool. I go to Village Preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a couple hours. I also still go to Parents Day Out on Mondays and call it my ‘old school’ while I refer to Village as my ‘new’ school. I’m a bit spoiled by PDO since they have fewer kids. Village has 16 kids with 2 adults so it is taking me more getting used to. Dad, however, loves the program philosophy since they use High Scope curriculum, which he also used in his child care days. Most of the month was dominated by outdoor activities, as you’ll see below, but I did get in another play this month. This time, Mom and I went to see a production of the Berenstain Bears, a play based on the popular book characters. I have become quite the fan, both of their books and the TV cartoon series that was done in the ‘80s but now airs on PBS. As many of you may know, I still watch very little TV – mostly movies – so this one regular TV show is quite the treat.

With summer drawing to a close, the family decided to trek out to the Topeka Zoo where we’d gone a year ago and had a great time. This time we brought Uncle Mark and our friend Christy along as well. The highlight was seeing the baby giraffe that had only been born a day before. I was very concerned that it had casts on its legs, though. The zookeeper explained that the giraffe’s legs weren’t strong enough and that the casts would help. Of course, it was also fun riding on the zoo train and the lion statue.

We also got in one last trip to Deanna Rose farm with our friends the Schneider family. I got to play on my favorite toy, the digger, and ride on the tractor with Kaylee.

As we were leaving, there was a tennis court by the parking lot and Kaylee and I were fascinated watching some people play tennis. Mom and Dad then took me out to a tennis court at a nearby park so I could try it out for myself. Gotta work on my backhand.

As another salute to the end of summer, we also squeezed in this trip to a nearby favorite park, complete with a lake and geese. I enjoyed hanging on the playground equipment like I was a sloth and riding my bike around the path near the lake.

Out of all the last celebration’s of summer weather, though, the biggest of all was my first camping trip. Levi was too little to go so Dad stayed home with him, but Mom and I went on our church campout. I loved going horseback riding for the first time and getting to roast marshmallows on the campfire.

Well, there’s my September highlights. I’ll leave you with one final thought – try not to take life too seriously. It’s supposed to be silly and fun!
