Well, here it is – my birthday month – I turned 3 on August 9. You can check out my birthday page for more on that:
Meanwhile, here’s what else happened this month:
With age comes both good and bad. One of the things on the bad side – sniff sniff – was my final visit to the play center. Sponsored by Parents As Teachers, it is basically a room organized like a high quality child care program might be, but the catch is that a parent comes with the child. Dad and I have been coming pretty faithfully since I was about 6 months old. No more playing in the kitchen or painting on the easel – I’m considered an old fogie now.
Alas, I found other ways to entertain myself. It has become second nature for me to engage in imaginative play based on favorite books. It isn’t too hard to figure out that in the photo at left I’m building Eeyore’s house, but the other photo may be harder. I’m Max, the poor dog owned by the Grinch in Dr. Seuss’ beloved book. I’ve been strapped up to the sleigh and loaded down with fake antlers and now must take up the grueling task of hauling away all the Christmas goodies from Whoville.
There were moments this moment that were not tempered with the bittersweet. My friend Miranda, from church, helped me out on a piano duet. I also got to go the church carnival and blow bubbles and get my face painted.
Speaking of church, although it is still more than a month off, I’m getting pretty excited about going on the church campout. Dad set up a tent in the backyard for me to play in.
On a completely unrelated note, I got a scooter from a neighbor down the street and have had fun riding around on it.
Another highlight this month was getting to see Dad’s Aunt Sara and Uncle Ralph. Sara is my grandpa’s sister. Sara and Ralph drove all the way up from Georgia to visit us. Mom took off with Levi for a trip to Washington D.C. while they were here, but I enjoyed going up to Mama and Papa’s (Grandma and Grandpa) and going out for pizza with them.
It would pretty hard for anything to top having a birthday this month, but the circus came close. I liked the elephants and the trapeze artists. My favorite, though, was seeing these motorcycles zoom around in circles inside a big metal cage shaped like a ball. I don’t know how they kept from hitting each other!
Well, there’s the highlights from the month. Don’t forget to check out my special birthday page.
