As has become family tradition, we trekked to the zoo over Labor Day weekend. In past years, we’ve made a day trip out of going to the small, but well-done Topeka Zoo, but this time we made a full weekend trip to the famed Omaha Zoo. I was mesmerized watching a shark swim right overhead in their amazing aquarium. I also liked the penguins. Check out more picks by clicking on the button below.

Heading back to preschool for my third and final year (sniff sniff) was the other highlight this month. I was old enough to go to kindergarten this year, but with an August birthday, would have been one of the youngest in my class. Besides, I’m in no rush to leave what has been a great preschool! |

As a family, we went to Powell Gardens, which is known mostly for all their amazing flowers and plants. For now, though, they also had a cool dinosaur exhibit with real-life statues spread throughout. I also enjoyed the scarecrows scattered around, apparently prepping for Halloween. |

Our family also went to Googols of Fun, yet another children’s museum in the area. It isn’t at the same level as Paradise Park or Wonderscope, but it still has fun things. |
