2007

As has become our family tradition, we trekked to the zoo over Labor Day weekend. In past years, we’ve made a day trip out of going to the small, but well-done Topeka Zoo, but this time we made a full weekend trip and headed to the famed Omaha Zoo. The other big excitement this month? I’m going to school! Well, a kids’ day out program. I only go on Thursdays, which is a bit of a disappointment because Evan gets to go 4 days a week. I keep asking “do I go to school today?”

I couldn’t ask for better – I picked out my very own fire truck lunch box, so that was pretty exciting, especially since the room I’m in has a big toy fire truck to climb on.

Of course, a man of my tastes has many interests, so I was equally excited to play basketball, do some pretend cooking, and ride on a digger. That’s pretty much the same stuff I would do at home!

In between Thursdays, we filled time with some other special activities, like going to Powell Gardens to see a dinosaur exhibit (looks pretty real, huh?)…
…and to Googols of Fun, a children’s museum. In regards to the latter, there’s air blowing out of that cone and keeping the ball floating in the air.

What more could one want in a month? Picking your own lunch box, playing basketball, seeing dinosaurs, riding diggers…is there anything left? Well, yeah. There’s always cake! Making it and licking the bowl is almost as much fun as eating the final product. Luckily, I wasn’t forced to choose one or the other.

It’s important to balance all that work and play with some quality rest time. I’m not sure how much rest Dad will get, but I’m comfortable at the top of the pile!

Bye!
